Are you stressing out just thinking about money?
Not able to fulfill your earning potential, particularly during a pandemic?
Feeling overwhelmed just thinking about it?
Warren Buffet said to not ever expect to manage your money until you manage your emotions. Emotions like fear, guilt and shame kill your ability to achieve wealth.
Why?
Because insecurity and not feeling worthy stops people from getting out there and serving people. Instead one’s head is filled with thoughts like “who would ever pay for this? Why would anyone want what I have to offer?”
Guilt and shame and not feeling worthy often stops people from asking for fair financial exchange, negotiating just contracts and saving money.
Believe me, I know.
Graduating with 3 college degrees, 3 career changes and a resulting $150,000 in debt, I had to figure out my psychology around money. I soon learned that it wasn’t what I earned, it was what I did with what I earned. Learning how to budget, save and snowball debt were milestones I couldn’t handle with the fear-based, head-in-the-sand approach I had lived by throughout my early adult years.
Needless to say they didn’t teach these things in my conservatory education nor psychology school. It wasn’t until I finally saw that my debt was a reflection of my own inner chaos that I got humbled and started facing reality.
I also realized that if I truly wanted to follow through on my inspired vision, it meant that I could no longer be in denial about my financial situation. It’s taken 7 years, but I finally did it. I learned how to pay off over $50,000 in credit card debt, cut my loans in half and am consistently earning over 6-figures. I have helped others do the same. I won’t lie. It’s not easy. If you’ve never had a value on money, or think it somehow makes you less of an artist, or it means that you’re a bad person or worse yet you just will never make much money as a “starving artist”, then it’s time to change your mindset.
The only things in life that we have any control over are our perceptions, decisions and actions.
Money is neutral. It’s a numbers game. It requires a balanced and objective mind. It’s how we think about it and what we do with it that is essential.
